City/town information

Chester is about a 15 minute drive and there is also a seasonal ferry across the CT River with amazing views. The town is a foodie favorite with amazing restaurants: River Tavern (farm-to-table), Grano (award-winning Italian with everything including bread and pasta made in-house), Otto Pizza (one of the best pizzas around with high end ingredients, several lovely lunch spots, the BEST ice cream at Honey Cone, and a favorite brewery, Little House. Seasonal Farmers' Markets, lots of shops and galleries, and everything is open the first Friday night of the month.

A riverside town with lovely shops, galleries, and famous restaurants like the Griswold Inn, Griswold Inn Wine Bar, Carlson's Landing (on the water), The Copper Beech Inn, and our favorite Mexican restaurant with a fun bar: Los Charros Cantina. The CT River Museum runs sails on an antique sloop and the Essex Steam Train offers daily dinner trains on antique pullmans and other seasonal and special excursions.

Old Lyme was the home of American Impressionism and still has a thriving art community with the Florence Griswold Museum, Lyme Art Association, Lyme Art Academy all offering exhibits, classes and special events. The village itself is quaint, offering a candy shop, Cooley Gallery (famous for shows of American Impressionism), the Old Lyme Inn (nice for outdoor dining and a cozy bar), and The Side Door Jazz Club which is famous for attracting very big names! There is a public beach (paid parking) with a carousel and a few beach restaurants.
