Whale Song is an escape on the edge of the ocean where pacific gulls call and the roar of the ocean fills the air.
Our beach shack is a sanctuary of peace and calm, perfectly suited for 2 - 4 guests.
Located in the sleepy hamlet of Falmouth, a stunning, secluded part of the East Coast of Tasmania.

Originally Built in the 1980’s by a local fisherman Whale Song shack has been enjoyed and loved dearly over the years; with the same love and respect for this special haven we have renovated the shack to enhance your comfort and make your stay an unforgettable experience.

A generous master bedroom with ocean views means from the moment you awake, you are captivated by the every changing mood of the Tasman Sea.
Fall easily into your lush, cosy queen bed and enjoy the intoxicating views out to the ocean as it tries to lure you away from your dreams that gently rock your sleep until the slow call of morning. Let the sunrise softly wake you and the moon shine tempt you to explore the silence, the crackle of the fire, the call of the ocean; and perhaps if your lucky watch a whales breach in the moon light; take your time.

Stories by the Fire
The rambling stone paths, lead you onto the extensive private decks, discover the fire pit with a window to the infinite ocean; a breathtaking view.
Watch the whales migrate, dolphins and Orcas pass, yachts cruise by, gannets dive for fish as the fishing boats haul, Pacific gulls glide, perch on the rocky reef and call… the sweetest sound.
As evening falls, enjoy a glass of wine by the fire, as the sun settles in the west casting its magical lightshow across the eastern sky.
If you are lucky enough to be at the shack for a full moon you can enjoy this stunning sight as the moon rises in front of the shack over the ocean.

Enjoy local produce collected from your travels and fresh bounty from the sea, as you cook, sing, laugh from the top deck kitchen, play a favourite record to set your mood and watch the sun dance on the ocean. Our beautifully renovated kitchen has everything you need to help you craft sumptuous grazing plates and gourmet feasts your heart inspires.

Explore and discover some of the delicious local wine and fresh produce, locally caught seafood, to the finest quality beef, artisan cheese, locally distilled Gin and Whisky.

Turn off, pause time and escape to the edge of the world where you stare at the stars, watch the ocean glisten under moonlight while soaking in the outdoor hot bath. Or enjoy reflecting on your beach adventures, watching the gulls glide over the ocean from the hot outdoor shower; let your salty hair, sandy feet and sun kissed lashes lavish in the warm rain.

Sand & Salt
If you love the beach, there is protected swimming a short walk down the lanes or around the headland at Henderson lagoon plus a wide expanse of surf beach, with surf in the right conditions for those who surf. Always take care swimming as conditions can change from time to time.
Snorkelling off the reef out the front of Whale Song will not disappoint for those with experience.

Letting the tide mark your path for the day, wander down the tea tree shrouded path at the south end of the garden, to the ocean, shells make a thick blanket on the sand resting after their long journey. The dried kelp and sound granite boulders weave in and out of the sun bleached land; creating lost worlds as you meditate combing through the endless intriguing shells. Time is yours to draw, dream, contemplate, enjoy and savour the warm sting of your first sip of tea or luxurious coffee and watch the ocean glisten under the sun as it stretches on forever.

If you feel like exploring the area Whale Song is a perfect base to access local attractions including the Bay of Fires, Freycinet National Park, Bicheno, St Helens and the many stunning east coast beaches and hikes this pristine region has to offer.

During whale migration season keep a keen eye out for humpback whales, dolphins and orcas as they swim by directly past the shack all year round; use our binoculars to help spot the activity.

Whale song is a place to restore, enjoy peace, dream, find inspiration, adventure and joy.

Kus sa elama hakkad

Falmouth , Tasmania, Austraalia

Falmouth is a very special, secluded hamlet. Many of the shacks and properties play a unique part in the rich history of the close knit and creative Falmouth community.
Wander down the quiet streets or access the headland path at the eastern end of the garden, explore as you are make your way to the favoured swimming hole of Henderson Lagoon. Once your in Falmouth you won't need your car to explore our sweet town, your feet will find their way.
In summer, there is always a private place for you to enjoy the beach from, drift wood forts to explore and draw. Surfers come and go as the swell turns it on. In winter, there is a beautiful stillness, with the delicious bonus of the generous sun that shines to make the days feel warm. Every season is beautiful, and are equal in their magic, we love them all!

Groceries and Supplies
There are no shops in Falmouth so please stock up on all your food before you arrive. There is an IGA in St Mary's, Scamander and St Helens or Bicheno; depending on the route you've travelled you may already have a hamper. There is also the East Coast Providore in St Helens which offers the best local meat, seafood and local produce
Whale Song provides some pantry basics, Oil, Salt, Pepper, a range of delicious teas and coffee.

1: on your doorstep there is the Tasman Sea, take the hidden path at the south end of the garden down to the Shelly ‘beach’ on the reef out the front... you can then walk the headland track around to the Falmouth surf beach and Henderson Lagoon ... as you walk along the head land there is a blowhole that’s works on a decent swell, about half way along the track as you walk north...between the granite headland form.
You’ll find the most incredible drift wood forts dotted around the sand dunes on the north side of the lagoon .. you may need to paddle / wade across depending on the tide.

2: a trip to the East Coast is not complete with our exploring the Bay of Fires... Our favorite little beach is Sloop Reef... there’s also a lovely walk through the Shea Oaks to the edge of the rocky headland with a beautiful view out towards sloop reef.
There is the iconic Binalong Bay of course but we tend to enjoy the beaches off The Gardens Road before you enter the town. (Cosy Corner & Jeanneret Beach)

3. Peron Dunes.... part of the St Helens National Park aprox 30 mins north of Falmouth just before you enter St Helens township... follow St. Helens Point Road out towards Akaroa
the actual Dune system is so beautiful... a lunar landscape which with the kids we slide down on old boogie boards or cardboard...but incredible to walk around and take in the view..
the beaches to enjoy here are Maurouard Beach (Peron Dunes beach) and Beerbarrel Beach .. it’s a bit vaguely sign posted but just follow the tracks and you’ll find them ...

4. I haven’t been on this walk but behind St Helens near Pyengana there is a beautiful fern forest walk out to Halls Falls ... with a beautiful pool at the end for swimming... definitely on my to do list for when we can get down again!
Also in the same area is St Colomba Falls..

5. The Blue Tier is also up behind St Helens... the most incredible rain forest area.. also renowned for the mountain bike trails... but walking through here is amazing!!!

6. The Floating Sauna / Derby- a truly unique experience not to be missed if you’re planning on exploring Derby ... be sure to book your experience before you go.. https://floatingsauna.com.au/

7. The Douglas Apsley National Park is aprox 30 mins south of Whale Song...
there are beautiful walks to explore in here

‘Douglas-Apsley National Park is incredibly diverse, with river gorges and waterfalls, eucalypt forest and heathlands overlooked by a dolerite-capped plateau. The park also supports many rare and endangered species that only exist here.
Walks in the park range from short, easy strolls to demanding overnight walks.
The Apsley Waterhole, a 10-min walk from the car park off Rosedale Road at the southern end of the park is a great spot for a picnic, scenic bushwalk and a leisurely dip on a hot summer day.
Short strolls from the waterhole take in water views and the picturesque Apsley Gorge, with its tranquil pools and undisturbed river scenes. Longer walks lead through wildflower marshlands, wet gullies and deep gorges to spectacular waterfalls.’

8. If you’re heading down south then you might want to do something touristy?? See or feed a devil. East Coast Nature World is worth a visit...

9. St Patrick’s head hike...
St Patrick's head is the peak behind Falmouth... it’s another hike I haven’t done but you can access it by going up to St Mary’s in the Fingal Valley (10 mins up the pass behind Falmouth) ...

10. Freycinet NP! Ok this needs no introduction and a place we often visit when we’re staying at Whale Song ... but it is aprox 1 hour south of Falmouth...
The Cape Tourville track is short and easy with magnificent views... but of course the Wine glass bay walk is a must ... the hazards walk is beautiful too but looks into Coles Bay.

11. Best coffee only 10 mins north of Falmouth is at Swims in Scamander .... they also do the best toasties 👌🏼

12. There’s also Mount William NP which is aprox 1 1/2 hours north of Falmouth..

13. St Helens & Derby Mountain Bike trails
World class mountain bike trails weaving through ancient forests, heathlands and the bay of fires.... if you need to hire a bike or shuttles up and down the mountain see the links below.

There are several options for hiring mountain bikes in St Helens:
