Kus sa elama hakkad

Magnisia, Kreeka

The South Pelion peninsula is located in Thessaly, halfway between Athens and Thessaloniki.
The houses of Afeilianes are located 60 km south of Volos, between the small fishing harbour of Platanias and the great beach of Kastri, on top of one of Afeilianes hamlet's hills.

NEARBY BEACHES… (10 min drive or on foot following the paths)
The 6 closest beaches are located between the great beach of Kastri and the beach of Mikro.
3 of them can be reached in a 20 min walk following the paths. 2 others can be reached in a 10 min drive. The beach of Mikro can be reached with the little kaiki in Platanias.
There are many other beaches and coves we'd be happy to provide information on…
Should you need to get away from the laid back, cushy atmosphere of South Pelion, all you have to do is jump on a shuttle boat from Katigiorgis to Skiathos Island an join the crazy parties of Banana Beach in a 10 minutes ride (for teens and eternal teens).

ENJOY GREEK FOOD in the area… (10 min drive or walk)
The taverns of the 3 neighbouring villages of Lavkos, Promiri and Katigiorgis, all a 10-15 min drive, offer quality traditional, family food and hold "homemade" as a religion.
The major local specialties are the tsipouro (alcohol and mezes, as per the mood of the chef), the spetzofaï (sausage and bell pepper stew), the karavidomakaronada (spaghetti and scampi), and the roasted kokoretsi (for traditional meat product lovers). The taverns located near the shore also offer fish, calamari, squids and shellfish, as per the catch of the day.
You may also try the local kritama salads (Crithmum maritimum) and tsitsiravla (pistachio sprouts).
You will be able to buy fruits and vegetables, olive oil, olives, meat, honey, pistachios, cheese, jam and liquors from local producers.

The Argalasti market is located North-West of the Houses of Afeilianes and is a surprising occasion of seeing a lot of people all at once, since an actual crowd gathers in a joyful bazaar atmosphere. In August, it even causes traffic jams!
Further North, the ancient village of Milies presents a very old church, Agion Taksiarchon, whose painted ornaments are a real journey in themselves. If you pull further up to Tsagkarada, you may take a little break in the shade of the thousand-year-old plane tree that spreads its branches over the church's square, and meditate upon the peculiar architecture of these mountain villages, strong and gentle at the same time.
To the West, you will find the Pagasetic Gulf and the little havens of Milina and Chorto, where it is customary to watch the sunset from one of the cafés on the sea front.
On the South-West shore of the Peninsula, the fishing harbour of Kiriaki will surprise you with its spectacular, dry environment, and so will Trikeri's lunar landscapes. From Alogoporos, you can reach the small island of Paleo Trikeri with the shuttle boat (no cars on the island, accommodation at the monastery). You may also enjoy the fish and shellfish restaurants on the shoreline of the village of Kottes.
